How to frame your embroidery

If you would like to use your own frame, the embroidery only option is perfect for you. If you have never framed anything yourself or would simply like to see what is involved in DIY framing, follow this step-by-step guide to ensure you know what you will need to do to complete your personalised framed line art for your home.

Tools you will need to frame your embroidered gift

01

Gather Your Materials

Ensure you have all the necessary tools on hand: a frame with a mount (check the size will fit our frameless artwork options) , fabric scissors, masking tape, a ruler, pencil, and an iron to press the fabric. Having everything ready before your begin will make the process smooth and easier.

02

Press the Fabric

Iron the fabric to remove any creases or wrinkles that have occurred from the fabric being posted. This will give your embroidery a clean, professional look when mounted.

03

Measure and Mark

Using a pencil and ruler, carefully mark where to cut the fabric. Remember to leave a couple of centimetres of overlap beyond the mount area for taping the fabric in place.

04

Cut the Fabric

Use sharp fabric scissors to neatly cut along the lines you’ve marked, making sure to cut all four sides with precision, this will make applying tape easier,

Pro Tips

For an even cleaner edge, use a rotary cutter instead of scissors. This tool ensures a neater and more uniform finish. Use some masking tape to remove any lint from the embroidery.

06

Secure Two Sides with Tape

Begin by taping down two opposite sides of the fabric, ensuring it is centred and smooth on the mount.

07

Tape the Remaining Sides

Gently pull the fabric to create a slight tension and tape the opposite two sides. This will hold your fabric taut and flat within the frame.

08

Finish and Admire

Insert the backing of the frame, ensuring everything is secure. Now, take a moment to admire your beautiful personalised framed line art for your home!
